We do have a lot to like about computers some good some bad hacking the odd virus but look at the way every one on the planet with a computer and ISP (internet service provider) account can have a say well if you live in a part of the world that lets that happen Australia seems to let us do that so far. Free to say what you think no bad guys Knocking on our door at night to hall us off to jail. Let hope it will always be the case the powers that be always like having more and more power over us not a good think in the long run the more the power a government has over the people the worse the government. Governments need to worry about how good they are to the people as they are the ones who elected them in the first place and can kick them out the next time the election comes around, if you are lucky to live in a part of the world that let that happen that is. If history shows us one thing bad leaders end up gone one way or the other it may take a long time but it always happens.
Now I loved the day I started playing around with computers it keeps the mind alive, thanks you microsoft for showing me the way with windows. I now use a few different operating system with about 90% seem to use Microsoft's Windows OS (Operating System). I use Windows 7 and XP. I don't ever want to use Vista what in the name off God happened that day they thought up Vista that was one bad day for microsoft. But then I found Linux a hobby for a bit now I play around with it all the time, and am learning about it. It can be a bit harder then other Operating systems to use but this can be part of the fun. The other thing about linux I like is it's free all you need to do is download one or more of the hundreds of distributions that are out there and you will find one you like. I used Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Long Term Support) or Lucid Lynx as it sometimes called I have found it one of the better distros to use very easy for any one coming over from windows to use. I do find I like ubuntu the most and have used it for about three years, other distros that I have used a few Red Hat, Debian, Linux Mint, OpenSUSE, Mepis, Kubuntu, Zenwalk, Xubuntu, Knoppix, Slax, and Puppy just to name a few. Some I had a hard time with due to hardware problems like network and wireless card but for the most part it seems to be getting better with hardware support now. But on the whole I found it to be very stable operating system to use and I like it and even if you do use the command line more then windows you can find a lot of help from the online forums.
Windows open up computers for all thanks you microsoft, but it also good to try others as well companies can get way to big and then things can get way out off hand very fast it seems that the bigger the company the bigger the problem for us the little people. But then along came linux there are so many different distributions it can be hard to think which one is best for one to use. So just jump in and try one or as many as you can download it can be fun. the one I like the best is Ubuntu. And Ubuntu has others offshoots as well like Kubuntu,Xubuntu, Ubuntu Studio and Mythbuntu and who knows how many more as out there based on Ubuntu.Just more to screw with your mind, and the main difference with Ubuntu and Kubuntu are that ubuntu has the gnome desktop environment and Kubuntu used the KDE desktop environment both are very good. KDE is most like Windows type of desktop so may be the best for the Newbie coming over from the windows world it was for me. But who can tell we all like different things in a OS so give it a go.
The links on this website are the ones I have found that I like. Well how many of you out there have had a hard drive die on you not fun is it when all that data gone you did do that backup as well no guess not. Backups are the forgot thing to do so I will backup even to my website for now just my bookmarks. I have had a backup image not work so it my webpages now and for another way of backup my files I use Dropbox
